About This Trip

Travel along one of the most beautiful and classic routes in Western Canada and discover the Best of Western Canada on this two-week trip. Starting and ending in Vancouver, this tour lets you enjoy many of Western Canada’s most treasured highlights and discover its versatile regions, such as the Okanagan Valley, the Rocky Mountains, the BC Interior and the Coast Mountains. The Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper with its towering snow-capped mountain peaks and thousand year old glaciers, its valleys teaming with wildlife and emerald-blue lakes, is one of the most spectacular scenic routes in the world. This unique journey offers unforgettable opportunities to watch wildlife, such as black bears and grizzly bears, moose, elk, mountain goats and bighorn sheep. In the coastal regions, you may see orca and gray whales, seals and otters along with the majestic bald eagles soaring high over the Pacific coast.

Let the adventure begin! You have many transportation options for your trip, ranging from guided private transfers, driving on your own with a rental car, or sitting back as you accompany your group in a motorcoach. Whatever you choose, you can rest assured that Canadian Travel Partners will be there with you every step of the way. After arrival at Vancouver, you travel to your downtown hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you have this day to explore Vancouver, a city that has it all. Boasting plenty of outdoor activities, from the mountains to the rain forest, to the Pacific Ocean, there is plenty of incredible trails and views to explore, or water sports to engage in. The city itself is a modern and growing one, with many exciting attractions and museums within the city limits. No trip to Vancouver is complete without trying some of its wonderful and diverse cuisine.

Vancouver is yours to explore. There are countless amazing activities to experience. We recommend starting with a guided city tour, either privately with a local guide or on a public hop-on hop-off tour. Stanley Park is a must see highlight with its magnificent totem poles, and spectacular city and ocean views. For a bit more of an adventure, rent bicycles or E-Bikes to truly live the Vancouver experience and pedal along the Vancouver’s famous seawall. Explore Canada Place and Gastown. No visit to Vancouver is complete without a visit to Granville Island. If you have more time, cross Lions Gate Bridge for a visit to the North Shore, and walk across the Capilano Suspension Bridge or take a gondola up to visit Grouse Mountain for a unique view of the city from above. Vancouver has an abundance of delicious and unique restaurants to choose from, so treat yourself to a memorable night out. Distance: 395 km

Today, start your journey through beautiful British Columbia heading East on the Trans-Canada Highway 1 through the picturesque Fraser Valley, where rich farmlands with endless blueberry fields and lush meadows mark the scenery. Just East of Chilliwack you can check out an incredible waterfall at Bridal Veil Falls Provincial Park. After reaching the town of Hope, the road climbs steadily leading you across the Coquihalla Mountain Pass, located in BC’s dry and arid Interior.

From here, you’ll travel to the Okanagan Valley, famous for its countless fruit orchards and wineries. Make sure to stop at one of the many picturesque wineries overlooking Okanagan Lake and sample some of the fine wines of the region. Kelowna has grown into a mecca for culinary lovers, foodies and wine connoisseurs, and offers ample opportunities for farm-to table cuisine paired with local wines. If you want to stretch your legs or take a dip in some beautiful lakes on your way to Kelowna, then make a stop at Kentucky Alleyne Provincial Park.

Distance: 200 km

Lush orchards, rich vineyards and countless fruit stands mark the scenery as you drive along Okanagan Lake. Next, traverse the Shuswap Lake area, a popular vacation spot for house boaters. Soon, the road climbs up high into the mountains adjoining Mount Revelstoke National Park, your day’s destination. During the months of July and August, the alpine meadows bloom in brilliant colours and many easy hiking trails traverse the park.  Take the Summit Road to the top of Mount Revelstoke for a spectacular panoramic view over the Columbia Mountains.

Distance: 283 km

Leaving Revelstoke, continue to Glacier National Park via the impressive Rogers Pass. The creation and development of this pass is well displayed in the Visitor Centre on the peak of Rogers Pass. Past Golden, the Trans Canada Highway leads you through the awe-inspiring Yoho National Park with its majestic and rugged peaks. Here, the crystal-blue Emerald Lake and the nearby Takkakaw Falls make for very scenic photo stops and offer great hiking trails. More nature awaits you in Banff National Park, Canada’s oldest national park.

A full day to explore beautiful Banff National Park. The park is world-famous for its towering peaks, emerald green lakes and abundant wildlife including grizzlies and black bears, moose and mountain goats and more.  Enjoy a walk in Johnston Canyon and take the Banff Gondola up to Sulphur Mountain for a spectacular view over the majestic Rocky Mountains.

For those feeling a little adventurous, we recommend to explore the area on horseback and choose one of the many trail rides through Banff’s mountain terrain or along the scenic Bow River. A special culinary experience is a Cowboy Cookout trail ride with a sumptuous steak dinner in a mountainside setting.

Distance: 290 km

Today’s journey will undoubtedly count among the highlights of your trip as you travel along the spectacular Icefields Parkway.  First, drive to Lake Louise where the impressive Chateau Lake Louise sits against the backdrop of Victoria Glacier. Discover the picturesque Moraine Lake with its stunning mountain view of the Wenkchemna peaks.  Stop at Peyto Lake and at the Columbia Icefield to travel on the massive glacier and walk on the thousand-year old ice field. Here you have the option to go on the world famous Icefield Explorer as it takes you far up the glacier. At Athabasca Falls, take a short walk to view the magnificent falls, before reaching the small town of Jasper, scenically located in the heart of Jasper National Park.

Today, explore Jasper National Park with its many pristine wilderness areas. Take a scenic 90-minute boat cruise on Maligne Lake or enjoy a walk in the spectacular Maligne Canyon. Other options are a scenic drive to the Angel Glacier at Mount Edith Cavell with beautiful and easy hiking trails. Or enjoy an exciting river raft tour floating down the Athabasca River. If you are a hiking enthusiast and want to see some stunning views from above, then a trip up the Jasper Skytram to the top of the Whistlers Mountain might interest you as there are many trails and viewpoints to explore.

Distance: 320 km

Drive along the famous Yellowhead Highway with stunning views of 3953-metre high Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Stop at the Mt. Robson Visitor Center, an excellent spot for a short hike.  Entering British Columbia change your watch as you gain one hour. Clearwater, your overnight destination, is the gateway to the vast back country of Wells Gray Provincial Park, a pure wilderness area and a renowned destination for its breathtaking waterfalls, lakes, hiking and canoeing.

Distance: 424 km

Forested slopes, deep blue lakes and towering mountains provide the backdrop of today’s journey as you climb slowly towards the famous ski resort of Whistler, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Walk through the charming pedestrian streets and enjoy the lively atmosphere that Whistler has to offer. If you arrive early enough, there are plenty of walking trails or hikes nearby. You can even go up the mountain and travel on the famous Peak2Peak gondola. For more adventure seekers, there is ziplining and mountain biking to give you an adrenaline rush.

Distance: 280 km

Leaving Whistler, travel south along the spectacular Sea-to-Sky Highway and board the ferry to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island enjoying a 90-minute ferry cruise through the spectacular marine and mountain scenery of the Gulf Islands. If time permits, stop at Cathedral Grove near Parksville for a walk through an old-growth rainforest with giant Douglas firs. From there, continue travelling south across Vancouver Island. Enroute, stop in Chemainus, the city of murals and marvel at the picturesque village walls. Upon arrival in Victoria, take a walk along the Inner Harbour and feel the British charm and elegance of BC’s capital.

If whales are high on your list, you have come to the right place. Take a three-hour whale-watching tour and see orca, seals, porpoises, and sea otters just to name a few. Also, the Royal BC Museum in Victoria Inner Harbour is a highly recommended visit and is dedicated to the fascinating history of British Columbia.

Today, discover the botanical beauty of the famous Butchart Gardens before taking a 90-minute BC Ferries cruise through the scenic Gulf Islands back to Vancouver.  Upon your return in Vancouver, celebrate your last evening with a Sunset Dinner Cruise or with a dinner atop the Top of Vancouver Revolving Restaurant.

Grouse Mountain

Victoria Whale Watching

This adventurous 3-hour whale watching tour through the waters of Vancouver Island’s marine ecosystem is a spectacular adventure tour that will take you through some of the most breathtaking marine scenery British Columbia has to offer.
